Fraxinus oxycarpa var. oxycarpa
Medium-sized trees. Buds greyish-brown. Leaves opposite or in whorls of three, up to 25 cm long; leaflets usually 7-11, 5-7 cm long, 2-3.5 cm broad, ovate to oblong, serrate, green and glabrous on both sides, sessile; terminal leaflet sessile or with a short petiolule. Inflorescence decussate, on shoots of the previous year appearing before the leaves. Flowers bisexual; pedicels 3-5 mm long. Bracts 1-3 mm long, sometimes divided, covered with brown hairs. Calyx and corolla lacking. Anthers sessile, purple, greatly exceeded by pistil. Stigma with 2 short lobes, more or less rounded at apex. Samarae oblanceolate, 3-3.5 cm long, 6-8 mm broad, rachis 3-6 cm long.

Type: from the Caucasus (B).
Distribution: S. Europe to Persia. Cultivated in Pakistan.
