Caragana ambigua Stocks in Hook.J.Bot. 4:145. 1852. Boiss.,Fl.Or. 2:199.1872; Komarov, l.c. 305; Ali, l.c. 39.

Low growing shrub, branches pubescent. Leaf pinnately compound; rachis hard, spinescent, c. 2 cm long; leaflets 4-10, elliptic to obovate, mucronate, densely pubescent; stipules spinescent. Peduncle c. 5 mm long, 1-flowered. Calyx pubescent, teeth triangular lanceolate, as long as the tube. Corolla c. 15-22 mm long. Fruit curved abruptly sideways, c. 2 cm long, 5-6 mm broad, mucronate, puberulous.

Fl.Per.: April-August.

Holotype: Upper Baluchistan, 5000-9000 ft., Stocks 6196 (not seen). See Ali (l.c.) for discussion.

Distribution: Pakistan (Baluchistan and Waziristan).
