  • Taverniera ephedroides Jaub. & Spach

    Erect perennial, c. 60 cm or less tall, stem glabrous. Stipules 1-1.5 mm, encircling the stem. Leaf uni-trifoliolate compound, petiolule c. 1.5 mm or less long, lamina 4.0-12 mm long, 4-11 mm broad, entire, obtuse, obovate, glabrous, sometimes young leaflets with a few hairs. Inflorescence an axillary, pedunculate raceme, peduncle 1.5-5.5 cm long, glabrous. Pedicel c. 1.5 mm long, glabrous to scantily pubescent. Calyx c. 4 mm long, glabrous to minutely ciliate at the margin, teeth 2-2.5 mm. Vexillum c. 9-11 mm. Fruit moniliform, 1-3 (?) jointed, each joint c. 5 mm long, c. 3.5 mm broad, densely echinate.

    Holotype: Persia australis, province Laristan, Aucher-Eloy 5354 bis (G-not seen). Isotype (K,BM).

    Distribution: Pakistan; Iran.

    Most of the specimens belonging to Taverniera cuneifolia (Roth) Arnott and Taverniera glabra Boiss. can easily be separated on the basis of the characters advanced in the key. However, some intermediate specimens with a few scattered hairs on the leaves and stem are also met with.
