Tufted annual; culms 10-35 cm high, erect or geniculately ascending, slender. Leaf-blades 1-5 cm long, c.0.5 mm wide. Inflorescence 5-20 cm long, usually flexuous, often curved into a circle or spiral; glume 0.5-1.8 mm long; lemma 4-5.5 mm long; awn 3-5 mm long; anther 0.4 mm long.
Type locality: France.
Distribution: Pakistan (N. W. F. P.); Mediterranean region eastwards through southern USSR and the Middle East to Pakistan.
