    Annual, puberulous, up to 30 cm tall herb. Leaves with 1-2 cm long, filiform petiole; lamina ovate to broadly-ovate, 1-2.5 cm long, 0.8-1.5 cm broad, cuneate at the base, obtuse or acute. Cymose flower-clusters subsessile, 3-6-flowered, lax, with the lower bisexual and upper female flowers. Flowers yellowish, bracts 3, cordate-ovate, 2.5-3 mm long, hairy, acute, enlarged up to 4.5 mm after anthesis. Calyx of female flowers covered with capitate hairs. Achenes ovoid, c.l mm long, glossy, blackish-brown.

    Type: Gebel Ahmar, Egypt.

    Distribution: Afghanistan, Pakistan (Baluchistan) westwards to North Africa and Russia (Turcomania).
