Plants up to 120 cm tall. Leaves 2.2- 4.5 cm broad, minutely pubescent. Bracts c. 1.5 cm long, c. 4 mm broad narrowly lanceolate, villous to ciliate. Pedicel up to 4.0 cm long, non articulate. Tepals (8-) 11 mm long, greenish-brown to pink, margin pale, gamophyllous, tube campanulate. Capsule c. 14 mm in diameter, globose.
Holotype: Afghanistan, Kabul,Tang-i-Gharn, 1200-1750 m, Hedge &Wendelbo W2780 (BG), Isotype (E).
Distribution: Afghanistan, Pakistan (Chitral).
As pointed out by Wendelbo (l. c.), the Chitral plant (Stainton 2359) differs from Afghan population, in leaves 20 mm broad, pedicel 20 mm long and tepal only 8 mm long. More material is obviously required for objective assessment of variability.
