Olga Fedtschenko, while describing Eremurus sikesarus O. Fedtsch., in view of limited material, was in doubt as to the state of her new taxon. R. R. Stewart (Pak. J. For. 8(1): 74. 1958), juding by the localities cited, did not treat it as a separate taxon and referred the material to Eremurus persicus (Jaub. & Spach) Boiss. In his later publication (Ann. Cat. Vasc. Pl. W. Pak. Kashm. 51. 1972) he has treated Eremurus sikesarus O. Fedtsch. as a synonym of Eremurus persicus (Jaub. & Spach) Boiss. Wendelbo (Acta Univ. Bergensis,Ser. Math.-Nat. 5: 18. 1964) has referred to the treatment accorded by R. R. Stewart in his 1958 publication, but in Rech. f., Flora Iranica 151: 19. 1982, he has opined that “the narrow-leaved plants from Pakistan described by Olga Fedtschenko as Eremurus sikesarus look very distinct and might deserve specific rank.” As the narrow leaved plants are confined to a particular region and do not differ in other characters, the subspecific rank seems more appropriate for this population. More material is required for proper evaluation of this taxon.
