  • Asparagus maritimus var. breslirianus (Schultes & Schultes f.) Boiss.

    Dioecious herb, straggling subshrub to shrub, branches slightly striate. Cladode 1-3 in each fascicle, (0.5)-1.5-2.5 (-3.5) cm x 0.4-0.7 mm. Inflorescences developing after cladodes. Flowers of both sexes in clusters. Pedicels 1-3 mm usually articulate at the base of the perianth. Staminate flower: perianth 2-3 mm, campanulate, stamens, epiphyllous, filament 1.2 mm, anther c. 1.5 mm, vestigial ovary 1 mm. Female flower: Perianth c. 3 mm. Berry reddish, up to 8 mm in diameter.

    Type: No information about the type (locus classicus, collector etc.) is given by Schultes & Schultes f. (l.c.).

    Distribution: N. W. Africa, most of Europe, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakstan, China (N. W. Xinjiang), Pakistan (Balochistan), Afghanistan and Iran.

    It is being reported for the first time from Pakistan. Seems to be localized in Sur-Range, Spin Karez near Quetta.
