1975年12月毕业于中山大学生物系药用植物专业，1976年2月分配到中国科学院植物研究所 （北京）。1998年12月在中山大学获博士学位， 1997年晋升为研究员。27年来一直从事植物分类学、植物系统学的研究。1990-1991年和2000-2001年两次赴美国合作研究英文版《中国植物志》，并先后赴澳大利亚、荷兰、瑞士、法国、比利时、德国、俄罗斯、英国、奥地利、日本、菲律宾和柬埔寨等国访问、合作研究或参加国际会议，多次在国际会议上作大会学术报告，已在国内外核心刊物上共发表论著60多篇（部），包括多篇SCI收录刊物。工作期间，参加了中文版和英文版《中国植物志》、《西藏植物志》、《横断山区维管植物》、《广西植物志》、《龙栖山植物》和《中国高等植物》等16部重要著作的编著（均已出版），深入研究了葫芦科、茄科、列当科、金缕梅科、海桐花科和灯心草科等类群的分类学，具有十分扎实的植物分类学、解剖学、孢粉学、胚胎学等专业知识。1987年开始从事被子植物系统与演化研究，作为负责人或参加者先后完成了近20项国家自然科学基金委员会和中国科学院资助的重大、重点或面上基金项目。近年来，首次利用古今结合、多学科综合手段以及系统发育与地理分布相结合的方法探讨金缕梅科及茄科天仙子族的地理分布、起源、演化和系统关系，从而为全面研究金缕梅类和原始被子植物的起源与进化提供了植物地理学和区系学的证据和十分重要的例证，研究水平得到国内外专家的一致好评，为我国在该领域达到国际先进水平做出了贡献。培养硕士和博士研究生多名。1987年获中科院科技进步特等奖及国家自然科学一等奖一项（参加者），1987年获中科院科技进步三等奖一项（第三完成人），1994年获广西科技进步二等奖一项（参加者），1998年获中科院科技进步三等奖一项（第四完成人）。1999年被中国科学院授予“巾帼建功先进个人”的光荣称号。 Education Ph.
