Professor Li was born in Guangdong on 23 Oct. 1952. He graduated from biology department of SUN YAT-SEN University in Feb. 1976 and then worked at Institute of Botany Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) mainly engaged in plant taxonomy and phytogeography. He took charge and participated in extensive expedition to Qinghai & Xizang(Tibet) and Hengduan Mountains several times during mid 70’s and 80’s. He have published more than 30 research articles and assisted in 8 monographs. He had undertaken several projects of National Natural Science Foundation. After several years of administration work, he was appointed director of PE in July 2003. These years, he focused on phylogeographic study on Thalictrum and systematics and evolution of the Genus Clematis.
