Saussurea viscida Hultén, Fl. Alaska Yukon 10: 1627, fig. 6c. 1950

Plants 5–15 cm. Stems simple, lightly arachnoid and villous with viscid hairs. L eaves often wider than 8 mm; basal lanceolate to elliptic, margins denticulate, arachnoid throughout or viscid-villous on margins and abaxially on midvein; cauline leaves narrower, crowded, usually surpassing heads. Heads crowded. Phyllaries unequal in 2–3 series; outer phyllaries usually 2–4 times longer than wide. 2n = unknown.

Flowering Jul–Aug. Tundra, insular and coastal regions; 10–100 m; Alaska; Russian Far East (Chukotka).
