    Herbs, 20-80 cm tall. Pseudobulbs closely tufted, globose, ovoid or often oblique and irregularly shaped, 1-2 cm in diam.; roots many, slender, pubescent, 1-2 mm thick. Stems erect, 5-15 cm long, enclosed by a few membranaceous scales at base, leafy from base upward. Leaves 2-8, linear, 8-35 cm long, 0.7-3.5 cm wide, mainly 3-5-nerved, thinly coriaceous, slightly plicate. Peduncle slender, 20-60 cm long, often purple punctate; racemes 1-several, 10 cm long; bracts ovate-lanceolate, 1-1.5 cm long, soon deciduous; pedicel and ovary ca. 1.5 cm long, glabrous. Flowers pale purple to purple or nearly white, sometimes white and tinged with purple; sepals lanceolate or oblong, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 4-6 mm wide, apex acute, base slightly contracted, lateral ones slightly oblique or falcate; petals similar to sepals but narrower; lip often whitish or pale yellow, with minute dark purplish dots or short broken stripes on disc, sometimes with reddish purple band along crisped apical margin, oblong or nearly rectangular in outline when expanded, 13-17 mm long, 7-12 mm wide, 3-lobed, lateral lobes semi oblong, ± erect and embracing column, terminal lobe nearly orbicular or square, strongly crisped, apex often retuse or emarginate, disc with 4-5 longitudinal keels, keels toothed or wavy, whitish near base, yellowish near apex; column whitish or tinged with purple, semiterete, slightly curved, 11-15 mm long, apex slightly dilated and forming toothed wing, laterally rather thin, ventral surface sometimes with purple bands or greenish stripes, base with a yellow patch; anther nearly globose, 2 mm across, glabrous; pollinia flattened, clavate to ovoid, 1-1.5 mm long, in 2 groups of 4 (2 large, 2 small); stigma crescent like; rostellum broadly semiorbicular, decurved. Capsules ellipsoid, 2.5 cm long.
