台灣狗脊蕨

Woodwardia orientalis Sw. in Schrad. 1800 (2): 76. 1801; DeVol in Fl. Taiwan 1: 159. 1975. Woodwardia prolifera Hook. & Arn., Bot. Beech. Voy. 275. f. 56. 1836-40; Nakai in Bot. Mag. Tokyo 39: 105. 1925.

Caudex erect, stout, scaly. Stipes stout, 30-60 cm long, tufted, covered with large, thin, reddishbrown, lanceolate scales (2-3 cm long); fronds bipinnatifid, 30-200 cm long; pinnules on adaxial side of rachis longer than on abaxial side, basal pinna with 1-3 pairs of abaxial pinnules very short or lacking; pinnae often bearing abundant buds on upper surface. Sori linear, immersed, costal; indusia firm, brown, opening towards costa.

Distributed in mainland China, Japan and the Ryukyus, Taiwan, seaside (north) to 2,000 m altitude mountain, growing at exposed but somewhat wet or a little shaded places.
