Culms 1.5–3.5 m, 0.4–1 cm in diam.; internodes slightly 4-angled or terete, 10–15 cm, initially slightly white powdery, glabrous, basal internodes nearly solid; supra-nodal ridge distinctly raised. Branches 3 or more per node. Culm sheaths deciduous, thickly papery, nearly glabrous or sparsely yellow-brown setose; ligule ca. 1 mm, ciliate; blade 5–8 mm. Leaves (1–)3–5 per ultimate branch; blades lanceolate, 10–20 × 2–3 cm, secondary veins 5–7-paired. Inflorescence unknown. New shoots Apr.
