Plants minute to small, yellowish green, gregarious or in loose tufts. Stems erect, simple. Leaves smaller and distant below, much larger and crowded above, imbricate, ovate to oblong-ovate, rounded or apiculate at the apex; margins plane, serrulate near the apex; costa single, rather broad and flat, subpercurrent to percurrent; upper cells subquadrate or short-rectangular, rather thick-walled, smooth; basal cells linear-rectangular. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves differentiated, larger, lanceolate, cells linear. Setae very short; capsules immersed or emergent, ovoid from a short, thick neck, contracted below the mouth; opercula convex, half-spherical; annuli differentiated, persistent; stomata absent; peristome absent. Calyptrae mitrate. Spores spherical, papillose.
Three species are recognized in the world, and one species is known from China.
