Herbs or shrubs, erect or climbing. Leaves trifoliolate, exstipellate. Leaflets with scattered resinous dots below. Flowers axillary or racemose. Bracts often broad and membranous, deciduous. Calyx teeth distinct, upper 2 connate or 2-toothed. Corolla persistent, vexillum orbicular with inflexed auricles at the base; wings obliquely ovate or oblong, keel not beaked. Stamens diadelphous, vexillary stamen free, remainder connate. Ovary sessile, 3 or more-ovuled, style inflexed in the middle, stigma small, terminal. Pod linear, oblong, turgid, marked with transverse lines between the seeds. Seeds strophiolate, with a distinct aril.
About 35 species; distributed in Old World tropics; represented by 3 species in Pakistan.
