Trees or shrubs with narrow oblong‑linear leaves, without resin canals. Male cones axillary, solitary; microsporophylls with 2‑8 sporangia. Female flowers at the end of short axillary branchlets, surrounded at the base by pairs of scaly bracts. Ovule solitary, terminal, with a single integument. Seeds arillate.
5 genera and 20 species in the N. Hemisphere, S. to Celebes & Mexico; 1 .species in New Caledonia. Represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
