Evergreen shrubs or shrublets; branched. Leaves alternate. Flowers solitary axillary or in racemes. Calyx 5-fid, persistent, becoming succulent in fruit. Corolla campanulate or urceolate. Stamens 10, adherent at base of corolla; anthers horned or simple. Ovary 5-locular.
A genus of about 100 species, chiefly inhabiting America. A few are in New Zeland, Australia, Malaya and Eastern Asia. There is only one species on record from West Pakistan.
