Perennial, prostrate. Leaves simple, stipulate, reniform to peltate; margin crenate. Umbels simple. Involucral bracts inconspicuous. Calyx teeth obsolete. Fruit laterally compressed, ellipsoid to orbicular; ridges thin; vittae lacking. Inner seed face plane to slightly concave.
The genus has about loo species growing in wet and damp places in the tropics and the temperate zones.
