Perennial. Roots fusiform to tuberous. Leaves 2-3-pinnate, much divided. Involucre of white margined bracts or lacking. Rays 3-18. Involucel of white or hite marginedw bractlets. Calyx teeth obsolete. Fruit sub-didymous, ovoid; ridges thin or obscure; furrows 2-3-vittate or vittae minute to obscure; commissure 2-4-vittate. Inner seed face concave, usually with 2 grooves. 
A predominantly East Mediterranean to Central Asian genus with about 25 species. It resembles Bunium but the inner seed face is grooved and the fruits are ovoid.
