Plant 15-30 cm high, erect, ± strigose below, hairs pubescent, spreading and glandular in the inflorescence. Petioles of lower leaves 4-10 cm, blades 30-45 mm wide, subreniform, sparsely pubescent especially beneath, 3-5-lobed to the middle, lobes with broad rounded teeth. Inflorescence composed of a single or several racemes. Lower bracts stalked, trifid, upper bracts 3-lobed, sessile. Pedicels 20-60 mm long, glandular pubescent, bracteoles 6-14 x 3 mm, lanceolate, bluish, hairy, attached shortly below the flower. Sepals deep purplish-blue, hairy, upper sepals 22 x 17 mm, oblong-ovate, obtuse, spur 10 mm long, 4 mm wide at the base, curved, lateral sepal 20 x 10 mm, elliptic, apiculate, lower sepals 20 x 14 mm, broadly ovate, apiculate. Upper petals nearly straight, limb 13 mm long, narrow, apex ± hairy, 2-lobed, spur 12 mm long, lower petals almost straight, limb 8 x 4 mm, oblong, with 2 lanceolate lobes 3-5 mm long, hairy. Stamens 8-9 mm long, sparsely hairy. Follicles 4-5. 10-12 mm long, bearded. Style 1.5.2 mm long.

Closely related to Delphinium brunonianum, but with a shorter and slender spur.
