Anastatica syriaca L.Bunias syriaca (L.) M.Bieb.
Annual, 10-30 cm tall, erect or subspreading, often much branched from base; hairy with short, somewhat rough, branched hairs. Leaves oblanceolate or oblong-elliptic, (1.5-) 3-8(-15) cm long, (0.5-) 1-1.5(-3) cm borad, very variable sinuate toothed to subentire, lower stalked, upper subsessile or sessile. Spikes or racemes 15-30-flowered, lax and up to 10 cm long in fruit. Flowers c. 1.5 mm across, white, subsessile; pedicel c. 1 mm long, thickened and appressed in fruit. Sepals c. 0.8 mm long. Petals c. 1.5 mm long, spathulate. Stamens c. 0.8:1 mm long. Siliculae globose or ovoid c. 2.5 mm in diam. (excl. 1-1.5 mm long beak), indehiscent usually densely hairy with short, branched, whitish, rough hairs; septum c. 1.5 mm in diam.,sub-membranous; seeds 2, c. 1.5 mm long, ovoid, dark-brown.
Fl. Per.: April-June.
Type: Described from Syria, Herb.Linn.no.821/2 and 3 (LINN).
Distribution: S. Russia, S.W. Asia, Himalaya, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
