Plants up to 2 m tall, pubescent. Leaves large, 20-40 cm long, pinnate; pinnae lobed or not lobed, segments lanceolate to oblong, up to 20 cm long, glabrous to pubescent, under surface sometimes densely pubescent and white; margin serrate-dentate. Involucral bracts usually lacking. Rays 15-35, pubescent. Involucel of 5-8 linear to lanceolate bractlets. Pedicels pubescent. Calyx teeth minute, linear. Outer petals of the umbels c. 4 mm long, bilobed. Styles 1 mm long. Fruit 5-10 mm long, pyriform, minutely pubescent; dorsal and inter-mediate ridges filiform, lateral winged; vittae filiform, extending 2/3 the length of the fruit.
Type: Himalayas, Wallich 573 (K).
Distribution: Himalayas in India and W. Pakistan.
A common species in the mountains from 2000 to 4000 m.
