Stem 5-10 mm diam., finely papillose, glaucous green. Sheaths greenish, sometimes with reddish tint. Inflorescence up to 65 mm; glume-like bracts with dark red barbs. Spikes mostly 2-4 together, some solitary; glumes 3-3.6 mm, sides with dark red barbs. Stigmas 2.
