Stem 3-4 mm diam., trigonous to base, distal parts sharply trigonous with concave sides. Blades keeled, obtusely pointed, margins smooth. Inflorescence 35-90 mm; lowest bract mostly clearly longer than inflorescence; to tertiary multiple spikes of 3-4 spikes; tertiary branches up to 10 mm.
Fl. Per.: May - June.
In fresh water, in shallow water in lakes, canals; Distribution: Mediterranean, Turkey, Caucasus, Kazakhstan, China and W Mongolia, south to Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
